Tour report 'Mini tour to Almeria' by Nina
I attended my first Blues Weiser concert in December 2019. At that time, I was living in Holland, so I took a flight to Spain to enjoy their performance at Bar Central in Calpe... Unfortunately I arrived a bit late for the concert, but the band was really kind and decided to come back on stage for a delightful 20-minute jam session, much to the joy of me and the rest of the crowd who were eager for more!

It was that night that I made a promise to Jozz that I would be on time for the next gig. He chuckled and said "that's in Almeria." I wasn’t exactly sure where that was, but I assured him I would make it there to see them, no matter what. Later, I realized I was quite fortunate to have made that decision, as it turned out to be the last show before the global COVID pandemic struck and all the gigs were canceled.

Two months after my initial attempt to catch a Blues Weiser show, I hopped on a flight to Spain and I arranged to drive along with the band to Almeria! I was deeply determined to experience the entire gig, and it only made sense that I couldn't be late if I was to arrive alongside the band at the venue!

We kicked off our day bright and early for a scenic 4-hour drive. Here I am, in my rental car, enjoying a drive behind the band’s van filled with all their gear.

I really appreciate having some time to myself to think. Things have been a bit challenging lately, so this four-hour drive to Almeria is a nice opportunity to gain some perspective.

For February, it felt unseasonably hot, with temperatures soaring to an intense 30 degrees Celsius—a level of heat that truly pushes the limits, even for sunny Spain!

It was a really pleasant drive. Whenever I felt like suggesting a break, the guys would already pull over at a gas station. It was great to stretch our legs, take a restroom break, and enjoy a coffee together.

We arrived at the venue, Pub Dragonfly, in the afternoon to unload the van. The band and I worked together to move all the heavy gear onto the stage. This made it easier for us to travel to the gig later in my rental car, and we had plenty of time to find a good parking spot for the big van. I took some photos, and then we headed over to check in at the hotel.

Bob decided to take a nap, and Mike joined him at the hotel, leaving Jozz and me with the task of getting them some Burger King food. So off we went to the Burger King. The intersections were quite different from what I'm used to in Holland; to turn left, you first have to turn right, which was a bit confusing! The drive around Almería felt a little hectic for me, especially after four hours on the road.

Eventually, we found a parking spot and headed into the fast food restaurant. It was definitely the busiest and warmest Burger King I've ever visited! There were kids screaming and having fun everywhere, the floor could use some tidying up, and it looked like some tables still needed to be cleared. Let’s grab our food and head out!

Back at the hotel, we were delighted to enjoy some peace and quiet while having the burger and fries we ordered. Jozz decided to re-string his Les Paul before the gig, so he took care of that in the hotel room. I captured some photos of the moment as well.

At night, we returned to the Dragonfly to set up the gear.

I wasn't able to assist much with this, so while the band was setting up their gear, I took some photos.

I'm curious about what they're pointing at!

Then we had to wait... a... very... long... time...
The guys had asked me to help out at the merchandise stand and they were incredibly supportive in setting everything up and took the time to show me how to sell some t-shirts. Since my Spanish wasn't the best back then, we agreed it would be easier for me to call out one of their names whenever I needed help, and they were always happy to assist.

The team was guiding me through the set, advising which songs to film and which ones to hold off on sharing online for now, since the album "Obey The Booze" hasn't been released yet.

It's still a bit early to kick off the show, so the band decided to relax with a beer and a cigarette while they waited outside for everyone to arrive.

It's almost time to start! Some fans were kind enough to chat with the band, which helped the time pass a bit more quickly.

And then... they finally started playing! I was so excited to experience my first full Blues Weiser show!

At the last song, "Voidcatcher," they created a really nice atmosphere that added to the experience.

I had such a great time! It was an awesome gig; they played really well, and I absolutely loved the new songs! I filmed a lot of the performance (feel free to check them out by clicking the link below this post), and I took some photos too. Mostly, I just enjoyed watching the band put on an incredible show. I'm really looking forward to the new album and can't wait to see them again!

Before I knew it, the show came to an end. After chatting with everyone and enjoying some beers, we sold a few CDs and t-shirts before heading to get the van and pack up the gear!

It's great to see how happy the owner looks with his t-shirt and CD!

Sure, let's get started!

Here, you can enjoy listening to and watching the songs we recorded:

Tour report of the way back (by  Nina)
The next morning, we set off for our journey back. Mike and I are both looking forward to catching a glimpse of the Almería beach, so we decided to stop for breakfast along the way.

Taking some fun selfies with the band at the beach in Almeria! 😊

Band enjoying a relaxing time at the beach!

Then we hit the road and drive back home, making some nice stops at the gas stations along the way.

It was a lovely little getaway, and I truly enjoyed the gig. I can't wait to see them perform again, and I'm really looking forward to the new album!

Thanks so much, everyone!
